Please visit this page on The Weston A. Price Foundation website to find dosage recommendation and to read about Fermented Cod Liver Oil and the fact that they recommend it be taken with a source of vitamin K. Please note that the dosage is recommended for vitamin A and D separately so one can use it to apply to the brand of Fermented Cod Liver Oil (FCLO) that you buy.

The above page also gives links to websites that sell the brands of FCLO that The Weston A. Price Foundation recommend, I have pulled out a couple of the European ones here. The brands are Green Pasture – Blue Ice and Rosita.

These are the recommended levels of Vitamin D from the Vitamin D Council

  • “The more you weigh, the more vitamin D your body can handle; the less you weigh, the less vitamin D your body can handle. The… cutoffs of 300,000 IU in 24 hours or more than 10,000 IU/day for three or more months apply to average adult weight (125-200 lbs).”
  • “For children that weigh 25 lbs or less, more than 50,000 IU in 24 hours or 2,000 IU/day for over three months is too much and potentially toxic.”
  • “For children that weigh between 25 and 50 lbs, more than 100,000 IU in 24 hours or 4,000 IU/day for over three months is too much and potentially toxic.”
  • “For children that weigh between 50 and 75 lbs, more than 150,000 IU in 24 hours or 6,000 IU/day for over three months is too much and potentially toxic.”
  • “For children that weigh between 75 lbs and 100 lbs, more than 200,000 IU in 24 hours or 8,000 IU/day for over three months is too much and potentially toxic.”

The following are the guidelines that The Weston A. Price Foundation give for Vitamin A, see above link.

  • Children over 12 years and adults: A maintenance dose of cod liver oil that provides about 10,000 IU vitamin A daily, obtained from 2 teaspoons of regular cod liver oil or 1 teaspoon of high-vitamin cod liver oil.
  • Pregnant and nursing women: A dose of cod liver oil that provides about 20,000 IU vitamin A daily, obtained from 4 teaspoons regular cod liver oil or 2 teaspoons high-vitamin cod liver oil.”
